 | | Articles: | | Bill Laswell's drumandbass fusion projects Nowadays, more and more people are getting tired of music being too much predictable. Usually being original means to insert in tune some little uncommon idea while the whole track still remains in borders of distinct style. But some people are brave enough to try experiments in music using different approaches. One f the most commonly used adding-species-to-electronic-music technique is to record some live instruments and use it in your track. Today we have several examples of using almost full live band in recording drumandbass tunes and albums. This symbiosis of live musicians and drumandbass producers can bring new flavors to drumandbass sound as a side-effect. So, if we consider the future trends of drumandbass, we can use the opportunity to watch on current drumandbass-related projects with participation of live musicians. | This mix provides amazing opportunity to enjoy some kind of a magic trip for a listener. Marcus Intalex's vision of contemporary drumandbass is full of feelings deep as an ocean and high as clouds at the top of the mountains. When you have listened it for one time, you just want to press play to feel again all that this music carries. | In the beginning we are welcomed by soft voice of Irish reggae MC Lariman who propose us to "sit down and have a sensible conversation". Smooth bassline and beats by calibre accompany his voice and then Calibre's lightweight piano rolls in "All The Days" lead us to another fresh talent - MC Kemo with beats by Lynx in "Global Enemies". Next vigorous uplifting tunes by Commix, Johnny L and Amaning make us move a bit even if we sit on chair while chilling at home. Deep bassline in Soulmatic "Self Belief" catches up the mood, followed by Calibre's dubwise tune with smooth yet thoughtful lyrics by DRS. After another Calibre's work we meet fast jazzy drums with saxophone on the backgrounds from Theory's remix on Deadly Habit "Synesthesia".
In the middle of the mix saxophone yields to minimalistic dubby beats by Breakage making an interlude in music mood, which lenghtens with dark sounds from Alix Perez & Lynx. Then wobbling bass in tune by Zero Tolerance returns us to light and solful moods, which continue to develop when it becomes "Time To Fly". Indeed, tune by Intalex's own project Mistical with rolling amens and deep bass perfectly creates flying-like groove. Flight continues with pianos in dialogue with sharp bass stabs from Duo Infernale. Flying further, we reach stunning atmosphere of the "Pacific Heights". And again here come vocals by Kemo and Dennis Jones supported by straight beats by Bango Collective in "Apocalypse". Record is finished by soft moods of tunes by Mistical and Alix Perez with Sabre.
So, this pure magic music experience definately is worth attention from any person interested in deep and soulful side of drumandbass. If you are one, i advise you to purchase this CD immediately without a doubt! Words: r.dee
